Yes We Could!

Wow!  What a terrific day!  Congratulations to President Elect Obama!

We have really enjoyed blogging about this election and we've really appreciated all of your support.  Over the last two months, we've reached thousands of people across America and hundreds of people every day. Thank you to all of our subscribers and other regular readers. 

We have had readers from every state except Wyoming.  (strange huh!?!) And we've reached people in 60 different countries.  Our biggest readership has been in California, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, New York, Texas, Illinios, Virginia and Ohio.  We've had a tremendous volume of organic search traffic over the last few weeks and the largest number of search hits is for the top reasons to vote for Obama. 

We started out with the premise that a three cats (and a couple people) could make a difference even if it was relatively minor.  We have reason to believe that we exceeded our modest goal of winning a couple additional votes for Barack Obama.  And the people (not the cats) behind this blog also volunteered with the Obama campaign through canvassing which we highly recommend to all of you next time around.

Maybe we'll see you again in 4 years!

Obama Decisive Lead in Endorsements

Senator Barack Obama has gained an increasing number of endorsements from across the political spectrum.  Most notable this week is the endorsement by General Colin Powell. 

In addition, we cats found the site Editor and Publisher which keeps track of all newspaper endorsements.  As of Wednesday, October 22nd, Obama is winning the newspaper endorsement race by a landslide of 124 to 46 for McCain.  In addition to the raw numbers, Obama has the endorsement of 27 newspapers that endorsed the Republican in 2004 and McCain has only picked up 4 endorsements from newspapers that backed the Democrat in 2004.  We think that some of these endorsements are worth quoting...

SALT LAKE TRIBUNE (UTAH)
“Then, out of nowhere, and without proper vetting, the impetuous McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. She quickly proved grievously underequipped to step into the presidency should McCain, at 72 and with a history of health problems, die in office. More than any single factor, McCain's bad judgment in choosing the inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged Palin disqualifies him for the presidency.”

We have tremendous confidence in his intellectual rigor, his moral compass and his ability to make sound, thoughtful, careful decisions. He is ready.

We do, though, think Obama would govern as much more of a pragmatic centrist than many people expect.We know first-hand that Obama seeks out and listens carefully and respectfully to people who disagree with him. He builds consensus. He was most effective in the Illinois legislature when he worked with Republicans on welfare, ethics and criminal justice reform.

His economic policy team is peppered with advisers who support free trade. He has been called a "University of Chicago Democrat"--a reference to the famed free-market Chicago school of economics, which puts faith in markets.

We are proud to add Barack Obama's name to Lincoln's in the list of people the Tribune has endorsed for president of the United States."

Finally, in addition to newspapers many, many others have endorsed Obama.  We found what looks like a pretty complete list on Wikipedia. In addition to all the politicians and celebrities on the list, there are some very accomplished economist, quite a few military leaders, and organizations like the Sierra Club.

Why should you care about endorsements?  Endorsements in the papers are very well written and are thoughtful examinations of the key issues of the campaign.  Although there are a few common ideas in many Obama endorsements, reading or listening to them also gives an idea of the diverse reasons why people support Obama.  They remind us of the movement of enthusiasm for Obama and they often reiterate our own thinking.  These are our reasons for being interested in endorsements.

My humans went to see Barack Obama speak in Westminster, Colorado today!  Their favorite line from Barack's speech:

"[John McCain] likes to talk about how he'll take on the corporate lobbyists in Washington, but he put seven of them in charge of his campaign. And if you think those lobbyists are working day and night to elect my opponent just to put themselves out of business, well I've got a bridge to sell you up in Alaska."

Just found your blog and, as Democats for Obama, love it and find it very informative. We agree that McCain and Palin would be disastrous for not only the people of this country but for the animals as well. What does Palin have against polar bears, wolves, moose and cats anyway? I mean, we like to curl up to stuffed animals, but the plush variety, as opposed to the dead variety. The McCain/Palin ticket is just horrible and spells disaster to us all, including our humans. Obama Loves Cats

We're not actually sure if Barack Obama or his running mate, Joe Biden, really do love cats.  We'll have to be honest and say that we only assume that a person as intelligent as Senator Obama would naturally love cats.  He has been quoted as saying that he will get his daughters a dog when they move into the White House but we know that many, many Americas like both cats and dogs.  So we don't take it personally that he's keen on getting a dog.  And on the subject of dogs, we want you to know that our blog is not going to be one sided but in fact we have a couple dog friends and we will welcome the input of canines who support Obama.

We decided to start this blog to get the word out about the grassroots feline support for the Obama ticket and to educate and entertain both cat and dog lovers in America about the reasons we support Obama - and maybe just get a few more Obama supporters to register to vote along the way.

As you are surely aware, felines do not have the right to vote.  All the same, we have many of the same concerns and interests as our human companions.  For example, the supply of new toys and catnip dries up when our humans are laid off because their company no longer hires Americans but instead moves all its jobs to "low cost" countries. It's true that we don't have a formal education and we aren't quite sure what "the economy" is.  But, we have come to the conclusion that when its not doing well a lot of our human companions can't keep the $1000 dollars or more they need in their savings account to pay for the inevitable emergency vet bill.  We know we're not going to be able to hold back indefinitely and one day soon we'll eat that tempting plastic bag. Then we'll face the unfortunate situation where our life hangs in the balance and our humans have to decide if they can afford to go more into debt to save us.  We believe in an American Dream where humans don't have to make that terrible choice!

Our human companions are certainly filled with a new and remarkable optimism that politics in our Nation's Capital might be something an American cat could believe in again if only Barack Obama is elected... And let us assure you that whatever happens we are confident that its always best to be an American cat!  But we could no longer sit by wondering what we could do to help bring the right kind of change to America, we knew we had to act!

We hope you'll subscribe to our blog so that over the next few months we can share with you pictures of us dressed in our Obama/Biden "swag" as well as facts and information about Obama that are accurate and accessible.
